With the Christmas and New Year Festivities out of the way now is the time to be making travel plans for the year. If you fancy a day trip out of London or even a weekend. Curatevents would highly recommend Margate ! Only 1 hour 40 direct from London it is a fantastic place to get some fresh air on the beautiful beaches and some inspiration at the Turner Contemporary Gallery
We visited in October half term but had glorious sunshine, enjoying a meal outside the Turner Contemporary and a lovely coffee in the harbour where we found this beautiful shell lady !
We made a weekend of it and stayed at the wonderfully quirky Walpole Bay Hotel and Museum
The hotel owner Jane Bishop gave us a guided tour of the amazing hotel which was rescued from closure by her and her families love and enthusiasm. Famous artist and daughter of Margate Tracey Emin is a regular visitor at the hotel and has donated several artworks. Margate is getting a reputation as an arty paradise by the sea. Several London papers are reporting an exodus of creative people from the trendy areas such as Shoreditch and Hoxton, making the move to Margate to follow their entrepreneurial dreams and getting a foot on the property ladder, Cuatevents cannot say we weren`t tempted!!
